Dick needs to control the brat

[Dami looks up and sighs sadly.] He will not have much success with that. I was... a nuisance.

He needs to try. Christ, that kid needs real parents.

[He shakes his head sadly.] He'll never have them. Not the sort of parental love Dick and Bruce use to talk about. Even Jason use to talk about his mother fondly.

See no. We cannot afford to let that kid be fucked up. The way it's going me and Steph are going to end up playing mom and dad and we're both to fucking young for that.

That's kind of you. I am... glad you care for him. He... He may not deserve your care now but- [he bites his tongue] Thank you. Jason was a better brother than I deserved.

Kid, you have got everything backwards. Care is exactly what he deserves, something every kid deserves. It's not something you're supposed to earn. That's not how family works.

[Dami turns his face away a little, hiding a flush of colour.] Thank you. That... It means a lot to me.

[Jason reaches out to ruffle Damian's hair.] You turned out alright, huh?

[Dami struggles not to duck his head, blushing even darker.] No, no I didn't. I helped my brother to take revenge on my mother. It cost me everyone I ever loved.

Aw kid. [Jason should probably not get in the habit of hugging strange Damians, but the kid looks like he needs it.]

[Dami shouldn't cling but he can't not. Just... being near Jason again. He buries his face in Jason's arm, fighting not to sob.]

Hey it's alright. [Okay it probably isn't, but what else can he say.]

[It takes Dami a moment to pull himself back together.] I am sorry. Forgive me. I miss my Jason very much. He was... we became very close before...

I'm sorry, kid. You're all on your own now?

[He nods, hiding his face until he can pull himself together.] Yes. There is... no-one else left.

Now, that's not very fair.

[[OOC: She means what Jason is calling Damian, but Jason is welcome (and encouraged!) to think she means expecting Dick to rein Damian in. Yay misunderstandings?]]

I think it's perfectly fair. He signed up to keep the kid in line, the least he could do is keep the kid in line.

Well, that's better, I suppose. You sound a little less like the bastards I have to deal with when you call him "the kid".

Then use his name when you talk about him, and I'll keep it above the belt.

I very rarely use anyone's name, but if the lady insists.

I do insist. I deal with a lot of children who have been dehumanized by those who could help them, simply because they've acted out in reaction to awful things that happened to them. Teachers who call them "problem kids", neighbors who have nothing but bad things to say about the "brats" and "hellions"... I could go on.

So if you'd like to talk, tell me who we're talking about, please?
